Flora Chamber of Commerce

Member’s Spotlight

Dr. J. Calvin Wilson DDS

History & Future.

These two words don’t seem to fit together unless you take a very broad look at them. 1901 is when my family established their first business in downtown Flora. Another business came in 1945 slightly west of downtown. Now I am located on the east side at 317 East North Avenue.

Since 1993 Dentistry has been the Wilson focus. Like Wilson Motor Sales and Scudamore Brothers Store before it, service to my community and memebership with our Chamber of Commerce is part of that focus. Our Chamber helps to instill a sense of pride and a feeling of belonging to our town that other communities envy. As a young child I was designated to put the new year emblem on the black rectangle chamber sign above my Dad and my Uncle Gene’s desks. And I always knew there would be a new one to follow the next year. That type of membership and commitment to Flora was and still is important.  I hope all kids “get” that fact growing up and living in a town such as Flora is good! They may grow up and leave for an eduacation elsewhere but our next generation still needs to feel that sense of community. Supporting the Flora Chamber of Commerce helps with that!!!

THE MEMBERS CREED

I belong to the Chamber of Commerce because: I realize in unity there is strength; it is the best medium for serving my community as a whole; I believe in the future growth and progress of my city; it’s only qualification for membership is good citizenship; I want to work with my fellow townsmen for the common interest of all; I want to benefit from their concerted planning, counsel, and action; it is a clearing house for business information, business service, and community effort; membership pays a high rate of interest in service, personal contacts, community betterment and civic pride; experience and the records of the past have conclusively demonstrated its usefulness and justified existence, not only in this community but in practically every other part of the world.
